News by Connor Makar Staff Writer Published on May 19, 2026 17 comments Follow Vampire Survivors The bullet heaven genre, poplarised by relatively new hits like Vampire Survivors, finally has a dedicated tag on Steam. This addition came as part of a new update to the leading PC game storefront, which introduced a vast list of new tags for games available there. Bullet heaven is one such example, a sign of validation for this twist on arcade-rooted bullet hell games. Details on the update were broken down in a news post published by Valve. These have been made "with the goal of helping players identify the games that best fit their interests, and helping Steam generate appropriate recommendations" according to Valve. 17 new tags have been added overall, while 28 have been removed. Bullet heaven - defined as "the opposite of bullet hell; Focus on upgrades while automatically attacking hordes of enemies" - is joined by desktop companion, cleaning, decorating, wuxia, poker, and others. There are also new tags listing the inclusion of specific animals for the fauna-inclined, such as wolves and capybaras. As for removed tags, the clean-up targets categories that overlap with others, references to intellectual properties, and subjectivity. These include (but are not limited to) Games Workshop, Kickstarter, blood, america, and ambient. This update post came with an interesting tidbit, that being the singleplayer tag reigning as the most popular label in use, being applied to roughly 98,000 games. Runners up include the indie tag, which is assigned to more than 82,000 games, with action, casual, and adventure coming in at third, fourth, and fifth respectively. If you take a gander at the bullet heaven tag on Steam today, you'll see a variety of fantastic indie games on display. Megabonk, The Spell Brigade, and Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor are chief among them.
