Nintendo Switch 2 Owners Face a New Hardware Lottery, as Upgraded LCD Revision Could Split Buyers Into Winners and Losers - Wccftech

By being the only handheld that supports NVIDIA DLSS, the Nintendo Switch 2 is one of the most interesting gaming devices around, but the new generation system still has quite a few notable issues. The biggest of them remains its LCD display, which leaves a lot to be desired with significant ghosting issues caused by its response time, which is 50% slower than that of the original Nintendo Switch. However, one year after launch, this issue could be fixed in the near future with a hardware revision featuring a new LCD display. "A new model of Switch 2 LCD panel, most likely by Sharp, has surfaced on a Chinese resale site. Compared with the launch model from Innolux, the exposed circuit, connector, and cables are significantly different, indicating an updated design—not merely a minor revision," wrote Nintendo Patents Watch on Bluesky. Unfortunately, the currently available information doesn't tell us much on the possible improvements, as the original panel assembled by Innolux uses an LTPS glass from Sharp. Still, given the differences in the exposed circuit, connector, and cables, some differences should still be expected. As Nintendo already addressed bad launch HDR support with system updates, the only major issue that could be fixed with a new panel, and not with a system software update, is the ghosting caused by the slow response time. At this time, there's also no way to know whether the current Nintendo Switch 2 model will be silently phased out or coexist with the revision featuring the new LCD panel. The latter would definitely create issues, bringing another instance of a hardware lottery, a frustrating variable which is also coming back to the forefront of gaming hardware with Valve's Steam Machine.
